Final Project

Thank you, Chris.
And I hope to see you somewhere, someday. ^ㅡ^

 I prepared some impressive quotes.

First one is Funny quote. Maybe....
I absolutely agree with this quote.
Every morning, clock makes a noise, and I get up, turn it off, and go back to sleep. It's very hard for me to get up at once.

Second one is something wise.
It seems negative, but thinking differently, It means "Half of the people are above average."
Sometimes we need An optimistic point of view, it can change many things.
If I'm below average, I don't mind because I'm just one of the Half of people, it's just normal.

Last things are just simple words
But they can be surprising.
Each box, the word 'Smile', 'Dream', 'Fire', 'Lion' you can see. If they are upside down, they still have the same shapes as before.
It is called 'Ambigram'. I'm interested in it.

That's all I prepared. Thank you.

HW: 5/25

For your last :( homework assignment, please
(1) find 3 quotes from chapters 9 and 10 (total of 6) from What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20.
   CHAPTER. 9
   - You need to come to terms with the fact that if you really want to accomplish something, it's up to you to do so
   - The very worst outcome results when all of the teams decide to compete against one another.
   - Life isn't a dress rehearsal, and you won't get a second chance to do your best.

   CHAPTER. 10
   - The environment is filled with flaws and flowers, and we each decide which to embrace.
   - Your "Power" comes from the position you hold.
   - Most things in life, especially our failures, aren't as important as we think they are at the time.

(2) Post your art criticism on your blog.

The Scream

This painting is 'The Scream'. It is painted by Edvard Munch, in 1893.

DESCRIPTION
On the bridge there is a screaming man wearing black clothes with no hair, and two people behind him. There are also brown bridge, dark blue sea, and red sky on the background. As you can see these things, most lines are curvy. So I guess textures are smooth and cool.
ANALYSIS
The major colors are Red and Black. Red color is used on the background sky, and the bridge. And Black color is entirely used. The colors are mostly dark and it makes gloomy mood. therefore, the intensity of the colors seems dull.
There is a contrast between red sky and blue sea on the background. And on the front, Black and Brown color is dominant such as a floor of the bridge, people's wearing and shading. But this painting is not detailed and dark, so it's hard to distinguish shading and just black drawing.
This painting has perspective. The screaming man on the foreground looks bigger than two people behind him, the other things on the background are very small, and the bridge becomes narrow toward the end.
TECHNIQUE
The artist painted it on canvas with oil. He said he was walking around the river with his friends. At sunset, the sky turned into crimson and he suddenly felt gloomy and depressed. He tended to describe his feeling by painting.
INTERPRETATION
The theme of this painting is emotion. He might drew the man who is screaming first, because he just wanted to show his desperate feeling. It seems that the other things are not important.
The crimson red sky shows desperate feelings and the dark blue sea means gloomy mood. The man standing alone symbolizes the artist himself. He is losing his focus and screaming because he is suffering from bad things.
I would like to give a new title for this, 'Don't follow me!'. He seems to be chased by two man behind him. They look like Grim Reapers. He is afraid of the death and trying to run away from them.
JUDGMENT
This work is not representational, because it's painted simply, and the shapes are not elaborate and noticeable. And it's expressionistic, everyone can notice what it means. And it's valuable for its own expressiveness.
Through this painting, I realize that my inner side has a gloomy side.

(3) Wrap up your final comments for the semester.
   - ok! complete!

(1) create your own life metaphor. Life _______________________?

HW: 4/25

This is what I recited at Mid-term Project.

Kim Jo Han - You are my girl
Cuzz you are my girl
You are the one that I envisioned in my dreams
And when you're around
I can't express the way I feel inside
Cuzz you are the one
I didn't know that you would mean so much to me
Girl you're in my heart
I'm so thankful you were here for me
You are my girl

When you walked into my life girl
Just one look and you took my heart
I didn't know that I could have these feelings for you
There's so much that I feel inside me
I can't believe how you make me feel
Nothing in this world could change my feelings for you

Cuzz you are my girl
You are the one that I envisioned in my dreams
And when you're around
I can't express the way I feel inside
Cuzz you are the one
I didn't know that you would mean so much to me
Girl you're in my heart
I'm so thankful you were here for me
You are my girl

There's so much that I feel inside me
I can't believe how you make me feel
Nothing in this world could change my feelings for you

Cuzz you are my girl
You are the one that I envisioned in my dreams
And when you're around

HW: 4/11

(1) Choose 3 quotes of inspiration from Chapter 5 of “What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20″

   - We justify all the time, effort, suffering, and years and years that we devote to something by telling ourselves and others that there must be something worthwhile and important about it or we never would have sunk so much of our lives into it.

   - So quitting is hard - but it's even harder to do it well.

   - People who spend their time on creative endeavors know that failure is a natural part of the creative process and are ready when it happens

(2) Comment, please.

HW: 4/4

(1)  Choose 3 quotes of inspiration from Chapter 4 of “What I Wish I Knew When I Was 20″

   - So how do you find holes that you need to be filled?

   - Instead of waiting to be asked and tiptoeing around an opportunity, seize it. It takes hard work, dndegy, and drive - but these are the assets that set leaders apart from those who wait for others to anoint them.

   - The majority of people who claim great success have made it happen on their own. This means that the primary barriers to success are self-imposed.

HW: 3/30

(1) With your partner prepare a poem based on the poem forms we studied in class. Keep in mind that you should try and take the same approach as Sarah Kay: that is to use the art of writing poetry to try and figure something out.
REQUIRED: You must approach your poem as a puzzle. Choose a problem and try to unravel it’s mystery through the art of poetry.
“So I write poems to figure things out. Sometimes the only way I know how to work through something is by writing a poem. And sometimes I get to the end of the poem and look back and go, ‘Oh, that’s what this is all about.’ And sometimes I get to the end of the poem and haven’t solved anything, but at least I have a new poem out of it.”
There is no required length for this assignment, though I would like you to perpare 14 copies to share in class on Monday.
At the bottom of this announcement you will find the relative forms and rules discussed, along with some inspirtational quotes from our friend Ms. Sarah Kay.

   - E arth is the only planet where person can live
   - A nd I want to know about other planets.
   - R eally? do i have no choice but to Earth?
   - T he truth will out.
   - H ometown can be anywhere you are

   - I made a poem with my partner, but it was awkward and unskillful....It's not easy to understand even to me! haha

HW: 3/23

(1) Answer the questions on the conversation prompt discussed in class.
a. Do you agree with these quotes?
   - Yes, especially  "We draw imaginary lines around what we think we can do - lines that often limit us much more than the rules imposed by society at large."

b. When is a rule really just a suggestion? And when do suggestions morph into rules?
-in the library, we should keep quiet. It's not a rule but most of us keep this suggestion as if that is a rule. (Actually I don't know whether "KEEP QUIET" is a rule or a suggestion)
When almost people agree with a certain suggestion and keep it for a long time, people think it is indispensible and have a large effect on them. Then a certain one morphs into a rule.

c. What are the consequences – good and bad – of getting “off the prescribed path” (breaking the rules)?
   - Maybe get a little Bad and get lots of Good.
I think 'breaking the rules' is a kind of challenge. It would be not easy, make some problems to others. But it's the way to to think differently, and to find the problem that previous rules have.

d. What happens to those who break the rules?
   - restrict, penalty, punish, alienate, etc...
(Or, maybe he or she can change the rules , get praised, or ......................be attacked..? )

(2) Post an example of the ‘herd’ mentality in action. [e.g.] photo or video

Is it correct?  : )

(3) On this day the expression ‘OK’ entered into the American vernacular. What does it mean and who is credited as being the first person to use the expression publicly?
   - It means good, fine, all right, it can be used all times when you nod your head. Ok? make sence?
Martin Van Buren(the 8th president of USA)'s supporters called his hometown Old Kinderhook 'O.K.' for familiarity to people, but it was accepted as a spelling error.(All Correct → Oll Korrect). Later it became popular and widely used in the world.

(4) Comment, comment, comment!!!

And sometimes the same muscles contract when people feel sad, or disgusting.

d. What are some of the categories smiles fall into? What are some of the distinguishing features of each?
   - I think smiles fall into all of humans expression - happiness, sadness, pride, kindness, nervous, and so on.
